Helping A Friend You Never Knew You Had; An Update.

If you either come back to this site at all (thank you for that) or your just coming to it now, for this post, you may or may not have seen my call for help for a Destructoid community member and his brother. Its been a few weeks since then and Phil's given us an update on his brothers situation to the tune of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

For those not looking to jump over and read, the situation is this (and I hope I do it any sort of justice):

Phil's bother's family consists of Phil's brother, his wife, and 4 kids of varying age. Their home was afflicted with black mold, a particularly dangerous mold that can cause health issues, even in small doses. Because of the mold, Phil's clan has had to leave their home and their belongings behind (as is the usual case in black mold situations, from what I hear -because that shit sneaks in everywhere.), and have been left with nothing but issues.

First issue is the black mold case itself, which is a matter of the family getting dicked around by landlords, being denied any sort of fix to their living space, or reparation for the things they've lost because of the denial. They've left that place but can't simply roll over on everything thats happened -no one would (or should for that matter).

The update here being that Phil's brother has found a lawyer thats willing to work with them for very cheap, but they're still in need of a little over $1000 for the lawyer's upfront retainer.

Second is Phil's brothers ex, the mother of some (?) of his children, that he has custody of, has been found and child support says they will be going after her for a shit-ton of back support.

Issue here really isn't Phil's brothers, its more-so a long, drawn out, not-really-for-right-now-or-ever-here cautionary tale about how these sort of cases can go horribly wrong, and blow back on those who should be the clear victor, on a dime. I hope it goes well for them, though, cause the extra money would help them.

Third issue is their health, with the update being that its getting worse with no reprieve in sight.

Phil's Brother now as full blown asthma, which means inhalers, and on top of that had an incident that landed him in the hospital, after having had a sudden, small, seizures (and already being on disability, before any of the rest, for other reasons, causing him to be out of work).

His wife was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, an inflammation of the lung tissue and other organs, that basically never goes away, and their middle daughter is showing signs of it do now.

And the respiratory problems that the whole family had developed because of the black mold continue to be an on going issue, that they can't keep up with, for all the medicines and doctor visits they need to be on top of. They can still barely keep their gas tanks full, with what little help they've gotten so far.

So please, like I asked a few weeks ago, please go to Phil's Destructoid Community Blog page (here: http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/PhilKenSebben ) and read down a bit to find out the whole story, and even if you don't, at least read far enough to find out how you can contribute to the survival of this family in need. Every little bit counts. If you need more info, please, by all means, contact Phil on Twitter (@MikeMcPhil), and he'll tell you everything he can.

Thank you, not from myself, but in advance from Phil, his brother and their family.
